Art Work
I use art to transition from the left-brain world of analysis and technical writing at work into the right-brain mode needed to create poetry and prose. In art collections like Meditations, black acrylic and white interplay on large canvases, exploring the essence without outlines, evoking imagery that heals and supports my creative process. The rigor of rock mandala meditation and the splashy adventure of pour painting allows creativity to overpower knowledge until the tsunami of words overflows.
Fifth Element
This painting series Meditations flew naturally after my father's death, as I meditated in his transition. Focusing on the essence, the balance of black and white creates form without using outlines. This black and white acrylic on 40x20 canvas is now part of a permanent collection in my living room.
Connectivity
Rock mandala painting is another favorite form of meditation. After a busy day, it shifts the focus into the inner ocean where ideas await discovery. All the rocks in my Arizona rock garden will be painted one day. This particular rock has been washed and repainted. Detach!
Marina
Having Mars in Pisces in my natal chart influences how I move through the world, much like a clown fish. Snorkeling in the Venezuelan reefs among rainbow and puffer fish proved to be my favorite meditation during childhood. Rock painting reminds me of the fluid movement of fish swimming under the sea.
Splash
Pour painting is better than therapy. As a Libra, adventure must overpower rigor for the hedonist within to find a non-verbal way to communicate. There is exuberance in the process, from selecting a wild color palette to the invigorating pour. Once the painting dries, one delights with the shapes that emerge from some inner back alley.
